Here is your chance to practice the dance steps you've learned in class in a casual setting. We are kicking off a series of Friday Night Dance Nights at St. Ambrose Church Hall in Little Hocking, Ohio. Here's what we are planning to start with, and we'll see how it evolves throughout the year:

  • Dance to CD’s that we spin ourselves, no additional costs for bands or DJ’s.
  • Dance instructor(s) on-hand to help fine tune our steps and techniques.
  • Cheat-sheets with dance steps for the Fox Trot, Waltz, Rumba, Swing, Cha-Cha and Tango.
  • Bring your teenagers (13 and up) and introduce them to a few steps.
  • Bring your own snacks and beverages (no alcohol).
  • $15 per couple fee will be donated to St. Ambrose to cover the hall rental. $5 per teenager
Workshop instruction during the first 45 minutes.
  • 2 Song Series: Instead of changing dances every song, we’ll play at least 2 dances in a row.
    • Ex) 2 foxtrots then 2 waltzes, etc. That way you’ll have more time to work on each dance before the style changes.
  • Casual dress – from jeans to dress, whatever you’re in the mood for.

Consider this a fun date-night (even a family date-night) that will help you brush up your dance skills. It will give you great practice and get you ready for the area’s dance clubs: Tempo Dance Club at St. Ambrose and/or River Cities Dance Club at the Lafayette Hotel in Marietta.

About Us

Mark and Nancy Miller started ballroom dance lessons in September 2008 with Peter Ianniciello at St. Ambrose. After eight 2 ½ hour lessons, we went to our first dance at Avon Oaks in Girard, Ohio. It took us a while to build up the courage to get on the dance floor, and then we realized we needed a lot more practice. Since Peter was not teaching the next session, we found Bill Held and have been taking lessons with him.

We’ve been to a few dances at both dance clubs – Tempo Dance Club and River Cities Dance Club, and one of the dances with Sandi Elam. We realized that there are actually a lot more people in the valley who are taking dance lessons or have taken lessons in the past, but haven't been to a dance yet. Mark and I have learned that going to dances is the best way to improve our dance skills - and they are a lot of fun! Think of it as 3 hours of practice.

We brought up the idea of Friday Night Dance Nights to both Peter and Bill and they were both enthusiastic about a new dance format. Peter has agreed to act as DJ since he has an extensive music collection, but if you have cds you like, please bring them along. Bill and Sue will also help spread the word to their students and will hopefully stop over.

Along with new dancers at “Dance Night”, we’ll have instructors join us, more experienced dancers show up to practice and help others, and younger folks come with parents or friends to be introduced to dance (and get ready for the dancing at the prom!)

I intend to communicate mostly via email, so if you want to add your name to the list, send a note to Nancy_Miller@Woodcraft.com.
